UMBRA Screening at The Trestle Inn
Description: Through movement generated from the Tarot, film, shadow, and light, dance filmmaker Amber Hongsermeier presents a series of seven solos in her dance film UMBRA. Each solo offers a unique embodied exploration of integrating the shadow self and highlights the individual journey through the personal and collective unconscious.
Complimentary tarot readings will be offered during the reception at 6 pm, with the UMBRA screening happening at 7 pm. An artist talkback will follow the screening of the dance film."

Bio: Amber Hongsermeier is an interdisciplinary movement artist, educator, independent scholar, and dance filmmaker. She received her BA in Dance with a history minor from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, where she was awarded the Porter Award for Creativity in Dance. In 2021, she earned her MFA in Dance from Rutgers University, where she worked as a part-time lecturer in the dance program. Her varied movement background consists of commercial, concert, and vernacular dance forms. Her choreographic work has been shown in Nebraska, Iowa, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Japan. In her scholarly work, Hongsermeier uses frameworks from cultural anthropology, Jungian psychology, religious studies, and somatics to reflexively look at Western society, especially when it comes to the body, spirituality, and movement. Currently, she resides in New Jersey, working as a full-time dance professional and researching her next creative project, Anima a Go Go.
